Marrying on a Minute
The Redneck Debutantes can throw a party together in no time. We have thought about opening a party planning business called Crunch Time because it seems the less time we have, the better the party. Two Red Debs have gotten married recently. Red Deb A calls on a Tuesday morning in September and said “Guess what? I’m getting married! Next week!” So in the span of six days, the red debs went to work and planned and attended a surprise bridal shower, a bachelorette party, a wedding and reception. Whew!
The only problem with planning events during crunch time is that my hot flashes go into overdrive. It’s so lovely to be serving punch with sweat streaming down your face. OH WAIT. Red Debs don’t sweat - we glisten… I just glisten with glory!
The middle of March i get another call, this time from Red Deb C. She asked me what i was doing the following weekend. When I replied i didn’t have any plans, she informed that I did indeed. I was going to be attending her wedding. And, “oh, by the way,” she added, “I loved the way you decorated for my reception and did the flowers for my wedding to husband-before-last, will you do that for me again?” Of course I said yes. Come on hot flashes!!
I get to Atlanta Thursday night for a Friday night reception/wedding party. As we are sitting around discussing details and food for it, I decide that no good Red Deb should get married in a courthouse.
“I have a couple of friends in the area who are ministers,” I say to encourage the couple. “Let me make a couple of phone calls.” Of course I have completely forgotten for the moment that they will be marrying on Good Friday - that is, until the phone call to my minister friend is ringing! Yes, he does have Good Friday services and no, he can’t come to marry Red Deb C and her man.
Now, of course, they are excited about surprising the guests with a marriage ceremony at the party. Thank goodness for Jerry! Jerry is a minister we found on Craig’s List. He showed up, mingled with the guests and when everyone least expected it, came up to the front and performed the ceremony!
I was still dealing with my hot flashes in overdrive! Between setting up tables, moving them around, decorating them, making a few floral arrangements and more with less time than i needed, I was definitely glistening with glory that night!
